12 Geography students had an optional fieldtrip to walk the first part of the Tongariro Crossing on our Matariki holiday. We felt it important to offer a trip after our longer, planned trip in Term 1 was cancelled due to COVID. 10 students, Mr Padega, welcome gate-crasher Ms O’Çarroll and Mr Farrelly walked up to South Crater and back on a beautiful, calm winters day. There were laughs, snow-ball fights “how much further” comments and an overall excellent time was had by all. Mr Farrelly was relieved the mountain weather cooperated and we didn’t need to go on Saturday. Apologies to all the students for making them carry so many warm clothes but the weather could have been much colder.
