Each year the Manawatu Art Teachers Association and Te Manawa host an exhibition of Level 3 NCEA Visual Art folios that gained Excellence in the previous year from schools around the Manawatu. In this year’s exhibition there are 6 folios by Freyberg Visual Art students.
It is an honour for these students to have their work shown in a gallery like Te Manawa. It is a fantastic way to celebrate the student’s outstanding Excellence success where members of the public are able to see the quality of work produced.
The portfolio assessment requires students to develop a body of work in their chosen discipline on a theme or subject they choose. It is encouraging to see such a range of ideas in the show, from the USA / Puerto Rico relationship (Anya Rivera), to conservation themes (thrift clothing boutique (Zoe Bell) and re-usable bags (Lawrence Ashton), a whimsical portrayal of a boy (Rachel Liu) to fetish (Cameron Te Paiho) and finally the complicated question of whether it is possible to fabricate (through scientific exploration) the feeling of being in love (Kayla Campbell).
The show opened at Te Manawa Friday 1st of March and is up until June 9th. https://www.temanawa.co.nz/event/553643/
