In the July holidays a group of senior students went to Vietnam on a 2 week tour. Mrs Jochem, Mr Collier, Mr Farrelly and Cathy McKnight accompanied the students. We had the opportunity to take in many of the sights in southern and central Vietnam. Including the Mekong Delta, Cu Chi Tunnels, Nha Trang, Da Lat, Vung Tau, Buon Ma Thuot and other places. We also visited some schools and education institutions to continue already established relationships or begin new ones.
We were accompanied by Johnny Vuong and Son Nguyen (Freyberg students) for part of our visit, Their families also showed us much hospitality through homestays and impressive celebrations. We were also hosted by Apex Academy in Vung Tau where Freyberg students enjoyed intensive round robin ‘speed dating’ style conversations with Vietnamese students, some of whom had visited our school previously.
What will we remember? Motorbikes everywhere in Ho Chi Min City, the friendliness of Vietnamese people, the heat, elephants and Dragonfruit, oh and did we mention the motorbikes?
